“But I Like It Photography”?

From the early 2010s until around 2020, my portrait work was published under the name But I Like It Photography.

The name came from a lecturer at art college, who’d look at a piece of work and say something like, “I don’t know what if it’s good… but I like it.” It stuck with me.

But I Like It started life as a separate Facebook page for my main photos. I started it after a couple of friends mentioned they weren’t comfortable seeing quite so many partially clothed men in their feed. Later, when searching my own name brought up rather a lot of naked men, I began working with the artist name Johann D’Nale. In 2020, But I Like It was retired and the working name became Johann Creates.

Most of my publications and exhibitions to date come from the But I Like It years. You’ll find them in my artist biography.

Worked with me back then?

If you sat for me as But I Like It, you can still email me or contact me on Instagram with any questions or requests, whether that’s finding your images again, updating a name, or anything else.

Get in touch anyway – I’d love to know how you’ve got on and what, if anything, you recall of our work together – and the resulting images.
